Family law sometimes involves the adoption of children, children living with someone who is not a parent and sometimes resolving issues between parents who have never been married.

GUARDIANSHIP
Sometimes children come to live with other families for shorter time periods. This happens when a parent or parents are unable to properly care for a child. Sometimes an older person can no longer make decisions for himself or herself. In any of these situations a person called a guardian is appointed by a court to make decisions for the minor child or adult. A guardian is a fiduciary and must act in the best interest of the minor child or incapacitated adult.PATERNITY
If you and your significant other are not married but have a child together sometimes a paternity case may need to be filed to fix clear boundaries as to where the child lives, when both parents see the child and the payment of child support. This is commonly referred to as a paternity case.
